I just finished watching the first episode of "Voice," and I have to say that I'm super excited to see more! I was so touched by the subject matter, that I know I'm definitely going to love the show:) Not to mention, the cast is amazing in itself;)
I was so enthralled by first episode that I totally forgot to screen cap stuff. But, it's alright. I'm sure plenty of that will happen as the show proceeds:P

The Title
At first, I couldn't figure out why the show was called "Voice," but then right off the bat, we see that Forensic Science helps to 'speak' for the people who have died, so I find it rather appropriate. And not to be creepy or anything, I think it's rather beautiful:)
Also, because one of the main characters described these forensic scientists as picking up the thread of voices left by the deceased, I find that it's poetic and touching:)

On a side note, I actually watched an autopsy on YouTube the other day. I was shocked at first, but then I started laughing, not to say that it's a laughing matter that someone died, but it's just so surreal. And this emotion came over me that I can't really describe, but it was kind of nostalgic and epiphany-like, and relieved?
I felt like, "Hah, that's all we will amount to when we're dead. Just skin and bone. All the troubles that we face now won't be carried on. All these silly regrets won't mean anything. Worrying about stupid things, instead of what's important in life..."

Personally, I think death can be beautiful at times. Death makes you address things in your life you never thought you needed to. And it's great material to explore the range of emotions. Happiness, because death may lead to a better place beyond life; sadness because they left people they cared about; anger perhaps for the same reason...
And so many reasons could be behind that death. Medicine and science don't just save or prolong lives, it 'saves' people emotionally as well. The deceased, not being able to say goodbye, has a chance to say that, and give a final message, through forensics.

I just find that "Voice" is really going to bring philosophical questions to the plate, and address it in an educated manner, especially through the eyes of the characters whose pasts are equally troubled with tragedy and death.

The Characters
Kaji Daiki (Eita)- is a very interesting character:D He's sort of got these idiosyncratic 'twitches' or movements that come about when he's thinking really hard. Like, he'll tap his finger on his forehead several times, and he visualizes what he thinks happened at the crime scene. It's like he can piece several aspects and variables of the case and formulate a story. The professor who says he's great potential for the field notes that Daiki likes to ask "Doushite/Why," which is very important. Forensics isn't just science and data, it's about 'imagination.' I find his character really intriguing, and I want to know how he became that way:P

Ishimatsu Ryosuke (Toma)- ah, always the comedian:P Well, his character is not the inappropriate-funny kind of comedian, but rather a part of the drama's comedic relief. This series is rather thick with depressing matters, so Ryosuke's part of the comedic relief team:P His father is a respected manager of a hospital, and he expects Ryosuke to follow in his footsteps. So part of the reason why Ryosuke is taking the Forensic seminar, is for rebelling purposes, but we'll see how much his character will learn for the class:) Plus, he's Daiki's best friend, and really sets the stage for comfortable relationships between the 4 other classmates:P

Kuboaki Kanako (Ishihara Satomi)- a.k.a Aki-chan:) She's the only girl of the group, so I'm curious to see if there's going to be any romantic inklings between one of the leads. If anything, it'll probably be with Eita:P Anyways, she's a very straight forward kind of person, and she doesn't really believe in investigation outside of the forensic lab at first, but by the end of the episode, we see that she's starting to realize the importance of, not only the science, but also that they are dealing with peoples' lives and the surrounding circumstances can supplement their findings in the lab. After all, she did believe that medicine/science helps even after the person is gone. What moved her towards forensics rather than neuroscience, was what happened to her mother when she was young. Her mom had died in a factory, and there were bruises on her body, but nobody explained why. I guess, now, Aki is determined to make sure that other people get answers and hopefully, justice:)

What's great about this is also that she's worked with Tokito Saburo before on "Hanayome to Papa," and now plays their professor. I think one of the great conversations in the episode was between these two, and how it's good to have a sense of reality when doing this job. It's also good to realize that you're doing this for people, and that it's not just data. Keeping a normal life despite the crazy things that they see in the lab is also important, grounds you.

Sagawa Fumihiko (Tokito Saburo)- He seems like a quirky professor who really understands the nature of the human condition, and he has something for Chinese tea:P He seems to have a lot of insights:) Also, his character is somehow intrigued with Daiki, because apparently, he had encountered an 8-year old Daiki during an incident, and was inspired by the little boy's response to a woman dying. Perhaps, that may have led the doctor into the field he is specifically in today.

Hanei Akira (Sato Tomohito)- AH-he's a great character! At first, he seems intimidating, the 'Yankee' bike gang type, but turns out, forensic science saved his life. He had been blamed for a man's death, by appearance it seems, and was about to go to jail, until forensic science discovered that the deceased man had a chronic condition that caused the death, and not Akira:) So yay, Akira's here for, presumably, justice:) He's also part of the comic relief team of this show:) He's always picking on fellow classmate, Teppei:P And because of his past and having odd-jobs to work and pay for his college education, Akira has some useful information that otherwise would not be easily known:P Let's see what he can bring to the plate:)
Also, I have a personal liking to this character, because actor Sato-san, was in Kamen Rider Kabuto:)

Kirihata Teppei (Endo Yuya)- The actor is fairly unknown to me, but apparently, he is/was in D-Boys:) The character gets the poor end of the stick at times, lol, and is forced to act out a part of the crime scene, lol. Plus, he unknowingly ends up sticking his foot into his mouth, and get's harassed by Akira:P It's quite amusing though:) I think his father is a dentist, but he chose to not follow in his footsteps, which seems to be a pattern in this show;P
Stepping out of what's expected of you can be good sometimes, I admit. Ya know, choosing your path and all that good stuff:D

There are also other characters, which I will not be going into just yet, because, no offense, but they are minor (and I don't have time, because I should be working on a paper right now:p)
edit: [livejournal.com profile] sling90 brought up the fact that one of the minor characters who is one of the assistants in the lab, is actually Yamazaki Shigenori, who played Ogurin from "Last Friends." And so, she was saying there was a reunion between him and Eita, because Eita played Takeru:D
Oh, and HERE is her picspam, which is great in describing the characters too:)

Oh-just one more thing though!
The theme song is "Setsuna" by Greeeen!!! :D
So far, the lyrics sound great and touching, and I admit, I bawled at the end of this episode. I'm already loving it!! :D
And sometimes, "Hoshi wo Mezashite" plays in my head; it's just so right, don't you think? <3

On a final note: just wanted to say that I finished my 'Semi-Friends Only' post and compiled most of my fanfics into an index:D
My journal has always been semi-friends only, but I've decided that it's time to make a banner for it:P Also, I would really like to know when people add me, so I can add them back, because online friends are just as important as real life friends:D
So, if you haven't dropped a line and are still lurking around, please say hi:D
